Mostar & Medjugorje tour

We will drive along the Croatian coast toward north and make a short stop in village of Neum which lies on the territory of Bosnia & Herzegovina. Then we will drive along the Delta of the river Neretva and further on to the inland of Herzegovina. Before we arrive to Mostar, we will stop in Medjugorje - the second largest Catholic pilgrimage site in the world. The story of Medugorje is well known to most Catholics. In 1981 six teenagers were playing together in the hills between the villages of Medugorje and Bijakovici. It was on this barren hillside that Mother Mary appeared and spoke to them. When the children told their parents the first reaction was scepticism. The apparitions, however, did not cease. She appeared again and again and soon made believers out of even the most vocal of critics. Since then it is estimated that over 15 million people have visited this tiny place.

Finally we will arrive in Mostar and have a guided tour of this specific town. Its symbol is and the main attraction is Mostar’s world famous bridge that connects the two coasts of the river Neretva, although visitors soon find themselves immersed in other sites around its Ottoman Old Town such as the Old Bazaar, the Turkish House and one of the many fascinating mosques which have stood in this city for hundreds of years. When the Stari most, or Old Bridge, collapsed from tank shelling in 1993, it was like the heart was ripped out of most Mostar natives. Even mentioning the bridge for years after it fell to the bottom of the Neretva River, could invoke tears. The bridge is Mostar’s core and its reconstruction means that life is slowly but surely returning to normal in what is most certainly the most beautiful city in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On our way back to Dubrovnik we will visit a beautiful ancient town and fortress of Pocitelj, famous for its oriental architecture.
